On June 28, 2012 New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) hosted its BNY Mellon sponsored 2012 Vocational Conference: ‘Looking to a Brighter Future’ at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Over 100 youth in foster care and agency workers attended the event which offered a variety of interactive workshops focused on resume writing, job interviews and networking skills. The day-long conference included youth-led discussions on finding a job, mock interviews led by BNY Mellon volunteers, and a job fair connecting youth with employment and vocational training opportunities. The agency workers participated in a separate workshop led by the Workforce Professional Training Institute (WPTI) on preparing youth for the job search. This is the second year that the conference has been sponsored by BNY Mellon.

The annual Vocational Conference is a joint effort between NYFC, the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), BNY Mellon, and New York City foster care and workforce development agencies. NYFC would like to especially thank the tireless BNY Mellon volunteers who were on hand to provide practice interviews, staff the conference, and assist youth throughout the day.
