“Attaining a college degree would give me a jump start to chase after my dreams,” writes Vanessa, 20-year-old freshman at Kingsborough Community College, on her Guardian Scholars application.
Vanessa is currently pursuing her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and plans to continue her education and obtain a Bachelor’s degree. She aspires to become an entrepreneur and to start her own business one day.
Vanessa is proud to be the first person in her family to attend college. For Vanessa a college degree will help her achieve her dreams and give her the ability to help her community. “In ten years, I want to be able to give youth the opportunity to learn and be independent. I want to give back what was given to me.”
Being a part of the NYFC Guardian Scholars Program has boosted Vanessa’s confidence. She says, “I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders knowing that I have a support system at NYFC. Being a part of the Guardian Scholars Program is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I feel so blessed.”
Thanks to the support of our donors, NYFC has been able to expand the Guardian Scholars Program to more youth in foster care, like Vanessa.
