NYFC’s unique hybrid role as both intermediary and direct service provider gives us the infrastructure, field knowledge, and flexibility to meet the pressing needs of NYC youth both currently in foster care and those who have aged-out. NYFC serves about 1,000 youth annually – ages 18 to 26 – aiming to enroll them in college, support them through graduation, and help them gain the skills needed to enter the workforce. Since its inception in 1996, NYFC has distributed nearly $70 million in funds to support ACS-involved youth and families; including over $8 million in direct scholarships to foster youth to promote post-secondary education.

Our
Approach
Fundraise
We get New Yorkers involved in our work through fundraising and philanthropy
Incubate Programs
We incubate and test programs that we believe are promising for youth development
Manage Programs
We support the design and implementation of youth programs
Provide Direct Services
We are direct service providers of both our signature programs and new, innovative pilot programs
NYFC is a hybrid organization, operating as both a direct service provider and a backbone organization. In addition to our signature programs, we collaborate with stakeholders on innovative programming that seeks to address the most pressing issues facing NYC’s youth in new and innovative ways.
This hybrid approach means we take on multiple roles, with each facet of our organization working in tandem to increase the educational attainment, life skills, and career readiness of youth in care.

What The Youth
Are Saying

There are not enough programs in NY state like NYFC, but we definitely need more. In a system where so many of us are already forgotten and left behind, it’s nice to know that there’s still an organization that cares.

New Yorkers for Children is a safe space to help youth cultivate their excellence. Because of the support I receive from NYFC, I will be able to finish college debt free. I am happy to say that I am apart of something that will help more youth to come.
